Citizens Against Reckless Development (C.A.R.D.)
is a group of Agawam residents dedicated to the responsible development of our
town, while maintaining its' rural character and community based roots. Our goal is
to educate the citizens of Agawam Massachusetts regarding the negative impact
that would result from the construction of the proposed regional shopping center
on Tennis Road. We are also encouraging the adoption of new and comprehensive
zoning for commercial land use. Our concerns are for helping Agawam define a
course for progress and to ensure controlled growth for the benefit of all Agawam.
C.A.R.D was formed in January of 2005 when it was learned that a New York based
developer was planning the construction of a massive one-half million square foot
shopping plaza in the middle of a residential area of Agawam.
Since then, we have grown to a group of several thousand people, Agawam
residents like you, who are working to prevent the destruction of our town
character.
And now months later CARD is still engaged in a cause to protect our town
from an out-of-state developer trying to write his own zoning laws in our
town for his own financial benefit.
The members of CARD and others have fought tirelessly to maintain
Agawam's right to govern itself .
We have strived to maintained a "Take the High Road  Philosophy" . While
the developer has managed to pit neighbor against neighbor in his efforts to
build one of the biggest shopping centers in the region. CARD has and will
continue to refrain from mudslinging, personal attacks, and misinformation.

Judging by the thousands of supporters who have contacted us, it looks like
you agree it's a cause worth fighting for !
